Der Buchstabenzirkus has pitched its tents: clear the ring for the grand entrance of our letter acrobats! We’re treated to a truly daring act on the high wire – as thin as a line of writing on paper. The quintet of vowels is just as impressive as the daring M, which bravely prepares to leap, spins in mid-air and lands on its feet as a W. The big P dances across the tightrope with its head held high – after all, it’s not a little q! And C and K, of course, perform a duet.
In this circus, everyone from A to Z has their moment in the spotlight, and at the end there is well-deserved applause. We close the book and put the pen aside – until the next performance by the letter acrobats. Even if our hands get sweaty and the odd letter falls onto the (eraser) rubber mat and has to get back up again: here, the process of writing is celebrated.
Chilean author Paulina Jara and Peruvian illustrator Fátima Ordinola succeed in playfully portraying writing as an art form that opens up new perspectives for us. With colourful, tightrope-walking letters and dynamic text, they present the cultural craft of writing as one big celebration.
